Studio ensemble featuring alto saxophone (Alto Saxophone Soloist, Oboe, 3 Violins, Viola, Cello, Harp, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums) - Medium
SKU: JL.JLP-8024
By Charlie Parker With Strings. Edited by Jeffrey Sultanof and Rob Duboff. Arranged by Ed Herzog. Swing. Score and Parts. Jazz Lines Publications #JLP-8024. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-8024).
This studio ensemble arrangement was written for Charlie Parker in the early 1950s. Due to the success of Parker's 1949 studio session for Verve (featuring Just Friends) there was a need to fill out a book of arrangements for touring and for another possible studio date. Several New York arrangers were contracted to provide arrangements including John Lewis, Joe Lipman, Horace Henderson, George Russell, Glenn Osser, Jimmy Mundy, and Ed Herzog, who crafted this chart on the Green/Heyman standard I Cover the Waterfront. From all appearances this arrangement was never played. In fact, many of the arrangements that made up the Charlie Parker with Strings library were never recorded nor performed. This is a very interesting arrangement and fits well within the context of the rest of the Parker with Strings book. Here's a chance to play a never-before-heard Bird with Strings arrangement!
