Hymns of Freedom, by Quincy Hilliard, is based upon two Negro spirituals, “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” These two hymns are used in fragments throughout the composition. Contrasting sections of serenity and aggression create an emotional and majestic tapestry. Correlates with Tradition of Excellence Book 3, page 20.
