As part of my duties as composer-in-residence at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, Houston, Texas, I composed this brief work—in effect, a choral fanfare—for the beginning of the 2015 Christmas Eve Mass at Palmer Church. Rather than scoring the piece for a cappella chorus, as I have so often done in other music I composed for the outstanding Palmer Choir, Brady Knapp, Director of Music, I decided to include organ, in recognition of Palmer’s superb artist-in-residence, Ken Cowan, who is also Professor of Organ at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. -David Ashley White
