By Rita Arendz. Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Rita Arendz. This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Classical, Praise & Worship, Religious, Sacred. 12 pages. Rita Arendz #1167306. Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1596273).

Although Mendelssohn finished composing this Psalm, Hear My Prayer, in Germany in January 1844 at the request of William Bartholomew, its first performance wasn’t until January 1845 at London, England’s Crosby Hall, followed by its publication by Ewers & Co.
As Mendelssohn himself called it, this “trifle” of a work, a term he often used to downplay his compositions, is one of his most popular and widely-known choral works. Despite his modest description, the work has stood the test of time and continues to captivate listeners.
This setting captures the essence of the original 12:00 minute work: Section 1 - Hear My Prayer, the Recitative Section - My Heart is Sorely Pained, and a reduction of Section III - O, For the Wings.
This work is appropriate during the Season after Pentecost when readings reference Psalm 55.
Horn in F part included.
