A lighthearted, rhythmic romp suitable for pops programs or school programs. The piece maintains the same tempo throughout, and mainly consists of a repeated rhythmic pattern written in 12/8: 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2.
Various melodic elements are stacked on top of the rhythm, and different sections hand parts of the melodic line off to each other playfully. The middle part features percussion with a wide-open low brass choir - no cover from other instruments.
I'm calling this Intermediate, and I'm sure nothing in the description so far sounds daunting. It's definitely not intended to be particularly difficult. But the fact is until now no band has played this piece well.
Everyone thinks their school or community band is the GOAT. It's good to feel pride in your band, even if...well. If your band can master this piece, maybe you're the GOAT. Go for it!
(It's not that hard, really. Just have to feel the rhythm instead of fighting with each individual note and rest.).
