The original version for voice and piano has been transformed into a chamber music setting for flute, violin, violoncello, and piano.
The vocal line has been reassigned primarily to the flute and violin, alternating between the instruments and at times performed in dialogue to reflect the playful and dance-like character of the song. The piano accompaniment has been adapted from Mahler’s original piano part, with adjustments in texture and voicing to balance the ensemble and enhance rhythmic vitality.
A newly created violoncello part reinforces the harmonic structure, supports the bass line, and adds warmth and depth to the overall sound. In selected passages, the cello also contributes lyrical counter-melodies and rhythmic figures to strengthen the dance character.
The arrangement maintains the original melody, harmony, and formal structure, while introducing new instrumental colors, articulations, and ensemble interplay suitable for performance as an instrumental chamber work without voice.
