Leopold Mozarts Versuch einer grundlichen Violinschule erschien erstmals im Jahr 1756 und erfuhr rasch Verbreitung in Deutschland, den Niederlanden (1766) und Frankreich (1770). Der vorliegende Reprint gibt die dritte Auflage (Augsburg 1787) und damit die letzte Ausgabe wieder, die der Autor selbst uberwachen konnte. Die Violinschule ist die erste bedeutende Abhandlung des Geigenspiels in deutscher Sprache. Leopold Mozart geht dabei vor allem auf die durch Tartini und Locatelli gepragte italienische Violinkunst zuruck. In seiner Darstellung wird auch das direkte Umfeld von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts musikasthetischer Unterweisung erkennbar.
