As a piano teacher, I have had a number of talented students who have been very frustrated by the small reach of their hands. So I’ve always kept an eye out for interesting, expressive pieces without octaves or big chords.
It was a delight to discover wonderful pieces by little-known composers such as Baecker, F.X. Dusek, & Scharwenka but I have also included lesser-known works by Fibich, Rebikov, Massenet, & Heller as well as contemporary pieces by myself and by my friend and colleague Alison Mathews.
My aim has been to offer as wide a variety of pieces as possible – different moods, styles, tonalities, rhythms...
