Student note range: Bb to F. In this book, you will find a collection of Christian flute duets designed to be played by a teacher and a student. Students who grew up in the church likely know these hymns by heart. This provides a great opportunity to apply what they have learned on the flute to music they are familiar with, as well as the opportunity to share their musical talents in the worship service early in their learning. These duets are designed to put as much of the melody as possible in the part of the student, while also limiting the required range. Where the range is too large, the teacher part takes over. This provides a good opportunity to practice ensemble and chamber music playing skills. The parts are clearly marked on each phrase as to which part is the melody; the melody is always marked with a forte, and the secondary part is marked piano. The limited range provided in this book is designed to align with the method books that many band programs begin with, so that middle school students can jump in as soon as possible. Teachers will also find that both parts of the duets feature the same rhythms, allowing the teacher to support the rhythm reading and steady pulse of the student while still providing the musical enrichment of a duet.
