Luther was known for spearheading the Protestant Reformation as well as being a theologian and hymnist. His "Vom Himmel hoch" would be published in the "Geistliche Lieder" four years later in Leipzig, Germany. The text is based on the scene of the angelic host announcing the birth of Jesus Christ. Section A exposits the hymn. A modulation to a new key occurst at the end of section A with the aid of an Italian augmented sixth chord. Section B adds a descant by yours truly.
