1995 saw a hugely productive year for composer James Horner. Alongside Braveheart, he also wrote and recorded scores for Casper, Apollo 13, Jade, Jumanji and Balto. However it was Braveheart which really captured the audience‘s hearts, and the soundtrack album would briefly hold the title of Horner‘s most significant record store success story until 1997‘s Titanic.
The score features a curious mix of influences borrowed from non-Scottish cultures, including Irish Uillean Pipes, as well as Andean Pan Pipes and Kena Flute, but there‘s no denying the overall effect of the score, and its enduring popularity is well deserved.
