This versatile setting of the hymn tune Dix by Conrad Kocher provides five complete verses for both For the Beauty of the Earth and As With Gladness Men of Old. Each verse features a unique accompaniment, framed by a four-measure introduction and two-measure interludes between stanzas. This structure brings variety to the accompaniment while keeping the vocal line simple and familiar. The accompaniment only leads with the melody in the first verse, allowing the singer to develop independence.
Scored for solo voice with organ, this arrangement may also be sung by a unison choir. Traditional hymn texts are used, allowing a single copy to be purchased for the accompanist, while the singer may simply use selected verses from a standard hymnal. The melody is unaltered, allowing the accompaniment to also be used for congregational singing.
