I absolutely love this collection! The arrangements by Moses Hogan really bring these classic spirituals to life. As an adult learner, I found the piano parts to be a rewarding challenge—they sound impressive without being overly difficult for a dedicated weekend player. Playing 'Deep River' and 'He's Got the Whole World' feels incredibly fulfilling. Highly recommend for enjoyment!

I already knew the collection would be a good one after having met Moses Hogan some years ago before his untimely death and having sung solos from among his choral compositions. The collection is accessible, offers challenges vocally in phrasing and range, and offers great opportunity for both performance and teaching.

These arrangements are brilliantly done; however, one wishes there were a published medium key between the published high and low keys, which are often a whole fourth apart. For many voices, neither published key is completely practical for all of the the pieces in the book, and the accompaniments are intricate enough that many pianists can't just be expected to transpose.

This is a wonderful collection of spirituals. I really like Moses Hogan arrangements. I consider myself a baritone and the music is in perfect range for me. The accompaniment is challenging enough to complement the vocals. I sang the title song in church earlier this month...great experience for me. I do a lot of singing but I didn't want to set the difficulty too high. I think a person with intermediate skills will enjoy this collection.
