The Beggar's Opera, 1727, was a popular play in early Georgian England. Described as a ballad opera, it featured over 50 well-known tunes of the day, set to new words by the playwright John Gay.

My edition of this play uses an orchestra consisting of 2 recorders, flute, oboe, 2 bassoons (which may easily be replaced by cellos), violin, viola, double bass, percussion and guitar (not in this song). This is the vocal score, but a full score version is also available on this platform.

FILL EVERY GLASS is from the second scene: Macheath's highwaymen are enjoying a drink before hitting the road. Although the words speak of wine, the sound is most certainly beery!

The singers are Mat of the Mint, plus a trio of any three from the gang, and a chorus of men.
