In June 1984, Mulligan completed and performed his first orchestral commission, Entente for Baritone Saxophone and Orchestra, with the Filarmonia Venetia. He went on to perform this symphonic work several times over the years with orchestras in London, New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.
