The Latin word Elysium comes from the Greek Elysion, which in classic mythology refers to the Elysian fields, the final resting place of the blessed in the underworld. It was believed that heroes and mortals that had lived a virtuous life were allowed to enjoy ever lasting happiness in paradise whilst continuing their quests and passions in the afterlife.
This musical evocation for solo piano called Elysium is encircled by slow and sustained perfect fifths motifs establishing an archaic and solemn mood. The main theme in between the introduction and the coda unfolds tenderly and maintains at all times a peaceful allure simulating a state of ever lasting bliss. In essence, Elysium is a piece that explores stillness, inner calm and resonance.
