Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1894827).Symphonie Fantastique was written by Hector Berlioz in 1830 as one of the first program symphonies in musical history. The Dream of a Witches' Sabbath is the fifth and final movement. It tells the story of the author himself amongst a hideous gathering of sorcerers, monsters and witches who have come together for his funeral. The original melody from the first movement is now a vulgar and grotesque dance. Berlioz also combines the Dies irae melody to strike even more fear into the listener.
This great arrangement of about ten minutes in length by Randall Malmstrom is of the entire movement and is appropriate for advanced performers... and witches of course!
Instrumentation is for a 13-part Brass Ensemble plus Percussion and is for 2 Trumpets in B-flat, 2 Cornets in B-flat, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani and Tubular Bells.
