Down to the River to Pray
I am a professional singer and teacher at an arts college in Seattle. I am now teaching the chorus - which is an ensemble open to all singers, musicians and students of other majors - an unauditioned choir. I always appreciate The Kings' Singers arrangements...they are musical, provide a great challenge and are satisfying to sing. This song is a good start for a chorus made up of some voice majors and other students with less vocal experience...the melody is well-known, the harmony parts aren't difficult and the solos give additional opportunities for more accomplished singers. And the arrangement - where it looks like 6-part singing, is actually only 3-part singing - this is perfect for my group. The students enjoy this piece and I look forward to working on more Kings' Singers arrangements in the future.
