Purcell's music features a ground bass, which really lends itself to the feeling of decent [into the grave]. This arragement retains its orignial 3/2 meter and key of g minor.
The preceeding recit is also featured in this arrangement.
Now often associated with Remembrance, the lament can be heard at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.
