Utterley DISMAL Edition...
The Schumann piano concerto is one of the absolute most important concerti in the repertoire. This edition is a horrible edition to buy. It is heavily edited. Many passages have been slightly reworked with added notes. Some are shockingly dishonest to Schumann's original composition. The are many cluttersome pedal markings which do not belong to Schumann. While the fingerings may be useful, they are unnecessary and laborious. My second least favorite thing is that the print is excessively stretched so that a maximum of three lines can be fit on a page. This means a frustrating amount of page turns. There are only a few measures on each page. The book does not lie flat on the piano, which contributes to the overall banality of the edition. This is NOT the edition to buy for the Schumann piano concerto. Instead try the passable C.F. Peters edition. The Henele Verlag edition is fantastic! Both of these books will be a far superior edition over the Schirmer edition.
