Good transcription
This is indeed a solo piano transcription. You cannot use this to learn the original to play with orchestra. That being said, Bizet did a great job of combining solo and orchestra into a virtuoso solo work for concert purposes. Its not simplified in any way. The first movement works the best, since the orchestra is mostly in the background. The score suffers from the fact that occasionally accidentals are vaguely printed, and this fault plagues many Durand editions. There are also a few obvious errors. I recommend that any pianist who plays the work with orchestra also learn this fantastic version to get more mileage out of this great piece. Its well worth the extra effort. Its a popular concerto for good reason: musical depth in the first movement; entertaining and light scherzo and dazzling tarantella finale which always brings an audience to their feet. Its a winner!
