Fantastic Showpiece
A beautiful, yet highly difficult work on all fronts. While primarily a showpiece, it does have highly expressive moments. Performed as written, it requires great endurance, a full command of a four-octave range (horn pedal F - double high D#), the ability to perform multiphonics (a technique involving singing while playing), to transpose (it is written for horn in E), to do effective lip trills, very quick arpeggios and jumps as much as 2 octaves, and more. An excellent for study or a concerto competition, I recommend it for very advanced players. (Interesting tidbit: this piece, written around 1815, was among the first to notate multiphonics.)
