The historical Queen Berenice, married to Ptolemy III Euergetes of Egypt was worried when her husband went to war. She vowed to cut off her long, beautiful hair if he returned home safely. When he did, she honoured her vow, placing the hair in the temple of Aphrodite. The next day, the hair was gone. Ptolemy was very angry until his shrewd court astronomer told him Aphrodite was pleased with the sacrifice and had placed the hair in the sky as a constellation. Performance Time 3 minutes. 3 pages.
