Great pieces that motivates kids
I have used this book with both girls and boys with great success for at least 7 years. Many pieces sound harder than they really are, and make great choices for recitals and festival selections. Some pieces have mainly quarters and some have a few eighths. The hardest rhythm is the dotted quarter and an eighth. Key signatures do not go beyond one sharp or one flat at the hardest. My students' favorites are Lady Allyson's Minuet, Hurry Scurry, Stuck on C and Thumper. Icicles has an impressionistic sound with the use of the damper pedal. This should be a late elementary level but I rated it early intermediate since there isn't a late elementary level in the choices. It isn't a book for a beginner in the first year although I have used it for a 5th grader in her second year of lessons.
