Cascades is a Marimba duo for players on 1 marimba. It was commissioned by Despina Prastides Brown in Western Australia in 2025. This piece was written for 2 senior students and inspired by ‘In Motu for marimba four hands’ by Dirk Brosse. It also draws inspiration from well known marimba duos for players on 1 marimba by Ivan Trevino.
The composition explores the use of two players with interweaving melodies and rhythms that combine to make a cascade of flowing arpeggios. Players are set on either side of the marimba to avoid clashes.
