Three Lyrics of Edna St. Vincent Millay for Trumpet and Marimba by Eric Ewazen Chamber Music - Sheet Music

By Eric Ewazen

Ewazen, who has long been captivated by the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay, chose three special texts for the "lovely lyric voice" of soprano Joday Dall'Armi in 1990. Each of the three poems celebrates the beauty of our world in a different light, from a fleeting glimpse that remains only in memory, to an underlying understanding that we, ourselves, will not always be here to appreciate that beauty. Ten years later, Ewazen was moved to create a version for trumpet and piano for Chris Gekker, who has recorded the work on Albany Records (TROY670), and also later transcribed a marimba accompaniment, as well. For advanced performers.
