Capitan Harlock is a science fiction manga written and illustrated by Leiji Matsumoto, published in Japan from 1977 to 1979 by Akita Shoten. An anime television series directed by Rintarō and produced by Toei Animation was based on the work, which aired in Japan on TV Asahi from 1978 to 1979. This first series was followed by others, as well as a series of feature films, the latest being Capitan Harlock in 2013. The Italian theme song, Capitan Harlock, written by Luigi Albertelli and featuring music by Vince Tempera, was performed by La banda dei bucanieri and released by Fonit Cetra as a 45 rpm single in 1979. It was a notable success, reaching number two on the singles chart. It was later re-released on CD in 2005 by Warner Music in the album Goldrake & Supersigle.
