This advanced intermediate digital download arrangement of the beautiful "Beim Schlafengehn" from Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs was written for a woodwind quintet with a soprano soloist. This transcription, originally dating from the mid-20th-century, is perfect for recitals, opera-themed programs, and special events. The title of this third movement from Strauss’s lush orchestral work translates to “Going to Sleep,” and offers us a serene, autumnal masterpiece for soprano and orchestra, musically depicting a peaceful acceptance of mortality. The text is based on a poem by German-Swiss poet and novelist Hermann Hesse.
This arrangement was designed for college and professional ensembles. I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon.
