Beauty and the Beast has won a string of awards, and this song is popular again, due to the 2017 remake of the film. The audio clip is recorded by Capriccio Quartet who are frequently asked to play this piece at weddings. My arrangement of the song would suit players of ABRSM Grade 5 and above. It is in F major with a key change to D for half of the piece…a great key for strings. The viola has the tune quite a lot of the time but I have tried to pass around some solos from one instrument to another. I have marked these ‘forte’ so that they will stand out. The cello has a solo in 4th position towards the end. The double stopping can be divided among players in a string orchestra but for a quartet is not too difficult, as I always try to use open strings for one of the notes. I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed arranging it!
