With a text made up of several short lines petitioning God to surround us with His presence (similar to the prayer known as St. Patrick’s Breastplate), this short SATB a cappella choral piece is one to be sung prayerfully, giving careful expression to each phrase. The choir should observe the rise and fall of each musical line then, as the tonality changes in the second half of the piece, intensity should increase, finally resting in the tonic key in the tender Amen.
