Composed by Peter Warlock. Arranged by Matteo Delfino. This edition: pdf. 20th Century. Individual part. 8 pages. Matteo Delfino #2009407. Published by Matteo Delfino (A0.856300).
Basse-Danse is the first movement of the Capriol Suite by Peter Warlock. Capriol Suite is originally written for string orchestra but it has now been adapted for a Cello Ensemble or a Cello Quartet. This arrangement is great because Cello 1 and Cello 2 pass the melody to each other while Cello 3 and Cello 4 play the big powerful notes that make Basse-Danse. The highest note played by Cello 1 is a C5. Cello 1 is mostly in tenor clef but sometimes switches to bass clef. The highest note played by Cello 2 is also a C5. Cello 2 is mostly in bass clef but has small passages in tenor clef. The highest note played by Cello 3 is an F4. Cello 3 is completely in bass clef and can be mostly played in first position. Cello 4 does not require any position work if played by a Cello Ensemble because of the divisi notes. If Cello 4 is played by a single Cello, then very small position work is needed due to the double-stops. Cello 2 and 3 have some double-stops that can be easily played in first position. This arrangement is already bowed. Visit http://matteodelfino.wordpress.com/category/sheet-music/ for movements 2-6, other sheet music titles and recordings!
