Deceptively simple, this highly stylized setting of the traditional melody commonly known also as "Mueller" raises difficulties of voicing and sonority likely to challenge even advanced intermediate players. In a contemporary cultivated idiom throughout, the arrangement begins very simply and progresses through myriad textural changes, all while retaining the opening's endearingly pastoral, if somewhat austere, expressive tone. It makes an excellent addition to Christmas recitals and to contemplative parts of worship services during the holidays. The duration occupies approximately one-and-a-half minutes.
