Spring 2016 Chamber Music Arrangement Contest New Release. This arrangement for school string sextet offers several alternatives for performance: as a sextet, quintet (without double-bass) or a full string orchestra. Written with a Scottish association in mind where the tune is often played by bagpipes, the arrangement offers a student ensemble the opportunity to develop skills in controlling dynamics, where the piece starts almost inadibly (pppp) and progressively increases in volume till it ends as loudly as possible. A further opportunity is possible where the piece is played as a string orchestra, with fewer instruments to begin with and progressively adding more instruments for volume and body. Suggestions for performance and interpretation are given in the full score.
