This medley includes four of the most beautiful and important patriotic songs in the American repertoire:
The Star-spangled Banner, America's national anthem, words written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812; and music written by John Stafford Smith. (Please note that the version is written in the key of A Major. If you need it in another key, write me at [email protected] and I will send it to you transposed at no extra charge.)
America The Beautiful (music by Samuel A. Ward, lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates), was first published on the Fourth of July 1882. This beautiful song was at one time considered as a candidate to replace our current anthem.
Battle Hymn of the Republic, lyrics by Julia Ward Howe, to a traditional folk hymn, was written in 1861, in the heat of the Civil War.
Stars and Stripes Forever is John Philip Sousa's rousing patriotic march, written in 1896. An act of Congress in 1987 made this the official national march of the United States of America!
