The three works for violin and piano were written over a period of almost two years during 1943 and 1944. Away from the bustle of London, where Busch had lived before ill-health began to plague him, he was able to composeproductively at his home in Woolacombe, Devon. Works from this time included the Suite for Cello and Piano; a number of songs written for Henry Cummings, Peter Pears and his long-time collaborator Sinclair Logan; his ViolinConcerto was left unfinished by his untimely death in January 1945.
Busch left the three pieces as separate works and as such may be performed separately, or, if performed as a suite, may be presented in anyorder.
