Horn, Instrumental Duet, Trombone - Level 4 - Digital Download
SKU: A0.1767253
Composed by Oscar Franz (1843-1886). Arranged by edited by Brian Harris. This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Chamber, Classical, Contest, Festival, Instructional. 36 pages. Bandroom.com Publications #1327679. Published by Bandroom.com Publications (A0.1767253).
SPECIAL NOTE: This edition has transposed the 2nd Horn part from Treble clef (in F) to Bass clef (in C). The standard edition for 2 horns is available here. Also, an edition for Horn and TC Baritone (the 2nd Horn part being transposed to Treble Clef in B-flat, up 1 octave and a major 2nd from concert pitch) is available here.
As originally published in late 1870s or early 1880s, Franz’s 100 Duette für Zwei Waldhörner was printed as two volumes: Book 1 contained duets No.1-53 and Book 2 contained duets No.54-100.
The duets were not printed in score format (Horn 1 on a top staff, Horn 2 on a lower staff) but were presented as separate, sequential lines. While this contrivance minimized the number of physical pages/leaves necessary for printing (thus reducing the publisher’s cost), it made the duets more difficult to rehearse.
After playing through all 100 of the duets, fifteen “favorites” were selected for use in this compilation. These duets have been engraved in score format with added rehearsal letters as well as measure numbers, both of which the original lacked. In keeping with modern engraving practices, the following edits were made: - Courtesy accidentals were omitted; - The ambiguous dynamic markings of “sf” were replaced by accents; - Dynamics were aligned between parts and defined where necessary; - Articulations were aligned, matched, or added as deemed best practice.
If printing this book (recommended), be certain to include the "blank" second page - this ensures the best layout for the duets, minimizing page turns. (BcP-SE) __________________________________________________________________________________
