X Factor finalists to cover Bowie

The 16 finalists from this year’s X Factor competition are going to record a David Bowie: The Collection cover of David Bowie’s 1977 hit Heroes, it has been revealed. Cash raised from the sale of the record will go towards building recovery centres for wounded soldiers via the Help for Heroes charity.
Bowie originally released the anthem over thirty years ago and despite the song only reaching number 24 in the charts, it is now one of his best-known recordings.
It is the third time the finalists have recorded a song for charity, with the class of 2008 releasing their version of Mariah Carey’s Hero and last year’s hopefuls recording Michael Jackson’s You Are Not Alone. Both efforts topped the UK charts and raised over £1 million each for the chosen charities.
This year’s finalists will be hoping to achieve the same figures as their version of the Bowie song will reportedly be released on November 7th.
Over the course of his career Bowie has sold an estimated 136 million 20 Great Songs You've Heard On X Factoralbums, as well as picking up numerous awards for his songwriting and performing – these include two BRIT Awards, two Grammy Awards and an Ivor Novello Award.
Meanwhile, last night (October 17th) saw two acts evicted from the popular talent show, with Storm Lee and Diva Fever both being axed.
