BASCA is delighted to announce a student competition which will run alongside the 2010 British Composer Awards.
Budding UK composers are invited to submit their work to the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BACSA) to compete for the Student Composition Prize.
The winning work will be performed during the prestigious British Composer Awards ceremony on November 30th 2010 and also broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
The British Composer Awards, sponsored by PRS for Music, celebrate the best inUK contemporary classical composition. Â Attending the event will be promoters, publishers and performers of new music, making it the ideal platform for composers to have their work heard by influential members of the music community.
In order to apply, students must submit a work split in two sections to be performed at the beginning and end of the ceremony.
“The mood of the pieces should contribute to the celebratory atmosphere of the occasion,” BASCA explains.
“Practicality is also a consideration as the performances must require the minimum of stage preparation in order for the performance and the ceremony to flow seamlessly.”
The total duration of the work should be no more than seven minutes and must be tailored for one solo adult voice and a portable acoustic instrument.
The closing date is Friday 24 September.
