Steve Vai launches new scholarship programme

Guitarists looking to progress in the music industry have been offered a Play Guitar With... Steve Vaiunique chance to further their development through a new scholarship programme.
The Guitar Institute, part of London’s Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, has teamed up with Grammy award-winning and legendary guitarist Steve Vai to offer an exclusive education opportunity.
In total, the scholarship is worth over £7,500 annually, with the award comprising one fully-funded place and one part-funded place on the Institute’s renowned one-year Higher Diploma course.
Paul Kirkham, director at the Institute, expressed his delight at working alongside the renowned artist to offer musicians this opportunity.
“It is an honour to be working with someone of the calibre of Steve Vai and we have been hugely impressed by his obvious commitment to and support for the development of new talent,” he explained.
“This is of course a great opportunity for all aspiring guitar players – Steve Steve Vai: Fire Garden - Naked Vamps: Guitar Signature Licksis a huge inspiration to millions around the globe and for them to have the chance to develop their skills and talent at the Institute through his generosity is amazing.”
Individuals wanting to enter the competition to win the scholarship are required to upload a three-minute video performance of themselves to the Steve Vai scholarship website before January 7th 2011.
This will then be judged by an expert panel of judges, public voting and eventually Vai himself.
In addition to the place on the diploma course, the winning applicant will receive the opportunity to professionally develop their talent and skills through a number of performances at live showcase events in London.
