Simon Cowell goes on talent search for DJs in new show

Talent show mogul Simon Cowell has announced that he is to start a search for the world’s greatest DJs in a brand new show.
Plans have been in the pipeline for over a year and will see Cowell’s company Syco Entertainment partner with Sony Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment, the firm owned by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
According to the companies, the show will capture the “incredible rise of the DJ phenomena” and will likely be broadcast in the UK and the US.
“DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show,” Cowell said.
Stepping away from the conventional X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent format, the show will instead be based on a new live, international TV format.
“This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent,” Jada Pinkett-Smith added.
The news comes after Cowell admitted that he had taken the wrong step last year. He left the X Factor in the capable hands of an almost-new judging panel in the UK while he launched the format in the US and only came to the Britain’s Got Talent panel for the live shows.
His departure led to a ratings fall for both shows and even in the US the new X Factor USA did not achieve the same audience level as American Idol.
Cowell told The Sun recently that he had “got a bit too cocky” and that the ratings fall was a “big wake-up call”.
Therefore, he will be returning to the judging panel for Britain’s Got Talent and has already been seen at the first auditions. He will not, however, be a judge on the new DJ talent show, as confirmed on his Twitter account last week. This could be because he has too many commitments or because DJ mixing is not his speciality.
