Schoolchildren in Wales to sing for the BBC this Christmas

This Christmas will see hundreds of schoolchildren across Wales given the opportunity to sing in a concert recorded by the BBC, Walesonline has reported.
Children from schools in Swansea and Cardiff are currently rehearsing ahead of a programme of events that will see them perform at some of the top music venues in Wales.
The scheduled events follow a series of workshops held by industry professionals as part of the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales education and Outreach programme.
Suzanne Hay, education and community manager for BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, told the news provider: “We are aiming to give nearly 500 pupils from 11 schools across South Wales a musical experience they will never forget.
“Through performing alongside a professional orchestra and taking part in the radio broadcasts on BBC Radio Wales, we hope to inspire the young performers to develop a passion for singing, to take up a musical instrument or attend concerts with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales in the future.”
Children attending the workshops and scheduled to sing at the festive concerts have benefited from the guidance of several professionals including National Chorus manager Osian Rowlands, chorus member Lucia Vernon and vocal coach Jennifer Walker.
One particular highlight of the schedule will see pupils from Bishopston Comprehensive School join the National Chorus of Wales for the Christmas Celebrations performance.
“Join the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as they get into the swing of the season, including festive greats from Tchaikovsky and Leroy Anderson [as] Grant Llewellyn, a favourite with family audiences, will be taking up the baton to get you into the festive spirit,” the BBC commented.
Other youngsters set to take part include pupils from primary schools in Eglwys Wen, Melin Gruffydd, Pwll Coch, Treganna, Llwynderw, Pontybrenin and Lakeside.
