Rumer wins Mojo Honours award

Singer songwriter Rumer has won a Mojo Honours award at a ceremony on July 21st.
She won the breakthrough award, beating Villagers, Miles Kane, The Vaccines and Josh T Pearson to the prize.
A forerunner in the race to win the award, it comes as the singer, whose real name is Sarah Joyce, has had a memorable year. Her album Seasons of My Soul has gone platinum and reached number three in the charts.
“It has been a remarkable 12 months for Rumer,” Phil Alexander, editor of Mojo, told the Guardian.
“It’s all about the songs with her. That’s what’s made Seasons of My Soul one of the biggest-selling British albums in recent memory.”
The artist was nominated for three categories in total, namely best album of the year song of the year for the track Slow.
Winners of the awards are chosen by Mojo readers, leading Mr Alexander to note the “impact she has among real music fans”.
On the night, song of the year went to Grinderman’s Heathen Child and best album went to Arctic Monkey’s Suck it And See, their fourth studio album.
Best live act went to John Grant, while Primal Scream’s Screamadelica was given a Mojo Classic Album Award.
Gary Numan was recognised by the influential music magazine, being presented with the Mojo Inspiration Award, although it was Ringo Starr and Brian Wilson who were the real honours of the night.
Starr was presented with an Icon award and Beach Boy Wilson was entered into the Mojo hall of fame for his work in redefining the sound of the 60s.
“He has a sense of composition that is utterly unique to the point where it almost defies categorisation. Genius is the only word for it,” Mr Alexander said.
Past entrants into the hall of fame include Elton John and The Specials.
