For those looking, the search is over. For everyone else it has perhaps only just begun, with the release of an exciting new songbook that reimagines popular rock and indie anthems for Jazz piano.
Available now from Musicrrom.com, Rock Classics for Jazz Piano features 10 classic tracks specially arranged in an authentic Jazz style. It is the ideal book for pianists seeking something bold and original to add to their repertoire, or just to simply enjoy as an interesting and fun collection of unique arrangements to play.
The book’s editor, Adrian Hopkins spoke to the Musicroom blog about the new title:
“I’m very pleased to see this book in print as the idea had been floating about for over a year. The definition of a ‘Jazz Standard’ has changed so much since the early days of Jazz – now artists from Herbie Hancock  and Brad Mehldauto The Bad Plus and Christopher O’Riley are re-imagining pop and rock songs. Not forgetting Richard Cheese who has recorded several albums of metal classics recast as tongue-in-cheek lounge Jazz pastiches.
“I really wanted to ensure a variety of styles, from ragtime, to modern jazz and I think the book’s arranger, Christopher Hussey, did an excellent job, creating some challenging, yet enjoyable versions of the songs included. I hope that the fun I had putting it together comes through to the players in the sheet music.”
