This session will offer a platter of bright ideas for Key Stage 3 music, drawing on the publisher’s own range of interactive digital classroom resources.
Profile: David Ashworth
David Ashworth is a leader in music education in the UK. A freelance musician, teacher and education consultant and recognised nationally as a leading figure in ICT in music education, David has also been a key figure in developing an online presence and voice for music education through his work as project leader for the ground breaking website, teachingmusic.org.uk.   He has as a long list of credits including the BBC, Trinity and Open University plus many local authorities and Music Services.
David continues to be a popular presenter and workshop leader at most of the major national and regional music conferences.
Workshop: Samba!

This lively and practical workshop will give everybody a chance to try samba drumming. It will also offer a brief introduction to the genre, as well as ideas for samba-themed schemes of work.
Suitable for any music teacher with an interest in this increasingly popular percussive genre.

Profile: Mike Simpson
Mike Simpson is the musical director of world music workshop company Inspire-works. After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 1999 where he studied percussion, African drumming, conducting and composition, he spent an intensive year studying gamelan in Bali with Tjokcorda Raka Suastika of Ubud Royal family. He spent his first few years after graduating as a freelance percussionist performing and touring with several London based orchestras and groups such as the Philharmonia Orchestra and Sir Cliff Richard. As a composer, he has had his works performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Belfast’s Waterfront Hall and published by Oxford University Press.
Mike co-founded Inspire-works in 2002 with his wife Jacqui. They oversee a team of workshop facilitators who deliver West African drumming, Brazilian samba, Balinese gamelan and Caribbean steel pan workshops to approximately 40,000 young people each academic year. The Inspire-works facilitators have lead INSET sessions for many music services, local authorities and national conferences such as NAME and Music Learning Live.

Rhinegold Education is proud to support TeachTalk: Music and we are happy to promote a special session at the Expo devoted to debate on music education issues.
Session Time: 1.30-3.30pm, Thursday 21st March 2013
Location: TeachMeet lounge
Chaired by David Ashworth, and curated by TeachTalk: Music, this debate covers a range of current music education issues including pedagogy, curriculum planning, music in the curriculum and critical thinking in music education. Speakers include John Finney, Robert Bunting, Chris Philpott and Gary Spruce.
