Lady Gaga has been revealed as the headline act at this year’s Radio 1 Big Weekend. She will join Foo Fighters and the Black Eyed Peas on the main stage for the festival, which takes place at Carlisle Airfield on May 14th and 15th.
The Big Weekend will see 40,000 music fans make the trip north to see the pop diva perform alongside a line-up which includes Plan B, Everything Everything, Nicole Scherzinger, My Chemical Romance, Bruno Mars, Two Door Cinema Club, The Strokes and Swedish House Mafia among others.
Lady Gaga is set to release her second album, Born This Way, in May and will take to the stage on the Sunday night, closing the two-day free festival. It will be the New York singer’s first performance in the UK since her Monsters Ball tour in December last year.
She said: “I’m so excited to be coming to Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Carlisle. I’ve been planning and rehearsing for so many months.
“Expect a monster avant-garde pop fantasia. This event is so important to me because Radio 1 was one of the first stations to really support my artistry and my music and I get to come back and enjoy this moment with all of you.”
Inspired by glam rock artists like David Bowie, Elton John and Queen, as well as pop singers such as Madonna and Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga is renowned for her outlandish fashion sense and performances.
And festival-goers will be treated to a diverse mix of British and international artists at the festival on the four stages – Main, In New Music We Trust, Outdoor and BBC Introducing – ranging from household names to new artists.
