Queen in hunt for official tribute band

Aside from the odd exception, tribute bands rarely live up to the hugely-successful bands they attempt to emulate.
Indeed, the best thing about tribute acts is often there imaginative names.
A recent tribute festival included such acts at The Beautiful Couch, Mentallica, Stereophonies and Kings Ov Leon.
However, the tribute band scene could be set to change forever after one of the most successful rock groups of all time announced that it is to hold auditions for an official tribute act.
Queen have announced plans to create a never-ending tribute tour.
As well as seeing new musicians play some of the band’s major hits, which include Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Radio Gaga and We Are the Champions, the show will include archive footage and celebrity cameos.
The plans come after the band decided that touring and meeting the demands of their army of fans is becoming more difficult.
The appetite for Queen-themed entertainment is clearly there as We Will Rock You, the West End musical written by Ben Elton and featuring some of the band’s best known tracks, has played to packed audiences for a number of years.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, drummer Roger Taylor said the search is on for some “great-looking guys” to step into their shoes and delight Queen fans across the globe.
“Let’s face it, we’re getting a little long in the tooth, but there are an awful lot of tribute bands, some of them good, some of them not good,” he said.
“I’m quite convinced that there are tens of thousands of kids, of really talented people, in their bedrooms around the world playing drums, guitar, and singing. And I want to find some of those people.”
Taylor added that Queen themselves may still dust off their guitars in order to make special appearances, with some claiming the band are in line to play at the London Olympics.
