The latest title in the best-selling Noël series from Novello Publishing is out now at Musicroom.com.
Noël! 3 is a fresh collection of carols and anthems for the advent, Christmas and epiphany period for intermediate mixed voice choirs. From elegantly simple and easy to learn pieces to more challenging and unconventional works, the book ranges from the Baroque to the present, with familiar settings of traditional and lesser-known carols and new pieces by today’s premier choral composers.
Selected and edited by acclaimed musical director and choral conductor David Hill, choruses can enjoy a rich variety of pieces by Herbert Howells, Lennox Berkeley, Peter Warlock, Richard Rodney Bennett, Paul Mealor, John Tavener, Francis Pott, Nico Muhly, James Whitbourn and Richard Allain to name but a few.
Featuring music perfect for both sacred and secular programmes, the Noël 3 collection has a great balance of styles to help choir masters bring something new and interesting to their repertoire this Christmas. With original settings of unusual and obscure poems, higher tempo pieces and works of exotic inspiration (in a Noël first, an Aztec influenced piece is featured), choruses need never be stuck for fresh ideas again.
Alongside the traditional works and those of the book’s celebrated line-up of composers are two new carols, selected from a competition to find hidden compositional talent within Novello Publishing and their parent company Music Sales Limited. Fifteen entries were received and David Hill whittled down the field to a final group. The standard was high, and after aiming to include just a single piece if one were of substantial caliber, two were eventually included to the delight of their creators.
