British rock band Muse gave the best performance at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, according to NME readers.
In a poll run by the music magazine, the three-piece was given an average score of 7.87 out of ten for their headline act.
They performed at Leeds Festival on the opening night (August 26th) and closed the festival at Reading’s Richfield Avenue on Sunday.
Giving a real treat to fans, the band played an exclusive set, performing a complete track-by-track rendition of their 2001 Origin of Symmetry album to mark the tenth anniversary of its release.
They built a stage specially designed around the album with giant forks featured on the album artwork. There were also plenty of fireworks and even huge bouncing eyeballs.
Muse also played hits from their four other studio albums, Showbiz, Absolution, Black Holes and Revelations – which earned a Mercury Prize nomination – and The Resistance.
“I thought it was absolutely brilliant, as a diehard fan it couldn’t have been better,” fan George Anderson wrote on NME.com after the Leeds gig.
Other headliner at the festivals, My Chemical Romance, was given 7.75 for their performance by NME readers.
The Midnight Beast, who played on the Festival Republic Stage, were ranked third-best act of the three-day festivals.
So far more than 800,000 people have voted in the poll.
Also winning rave reviews were 30 Seconds To Mars, The Strokes – who were the third headliner of the festivals – and Two Door Cinema Club.
The NME/Radio 1 stage was a favourite among festival-goers, rating Cage the Elephant, Panic! At the Disco and The Vaccines in the top ten.
Pulp, who made a surprise return to the music scene at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, made ninth position with a rating of 5.97.
Fans who were unable to go this year were able to watch large amounts of footage on the BBC.
