The ukulele has become an incredibly popular instrument amongst all kinds of musicians over the last few years, and now one of the world’s biggest guitarmakers are getting in on the act.
Epiphone aren’t just putting their famous name across the headstock of this diminutive 4-string delight, but offering players a fully fledged Les Paul bodied ukulele!
The Epiphone Les Paul Ukulele will come in at least two finishes; heritage cherry sunburst and vintage sunburst, with the Cherry Sunburst being displayed at Frankfurt and pictured to the right.
Like it’s famous big brother guitar, the Epiphone Les Paul Ukulele features a AAA grade Flame Maple top, mahogany body, Les Paul style scratch plate and matching binding.
And its not just looks that have been borrowed from the renowned six-stringer. High-grade Les Paul hardware and materials adorn the uke, with 14:1 ratio geared tuners for precise and stable tuning, a rosewood fingerboard, silver-nickel frets, and a high quality under-bridge piezo pickup.
Having had the chance to try this little beauty out ourselves at Frankfurt Musikmesse 2012, we can report that it sounds every bit as good as it looks, and is a real step up in terms of build quality and tone. The instrument really comes to life when it’s plugged in, with a great tone for strummers and pickers alike.
