Film Tunes and Pop Ballads for Harp

Is it really possible to play modern music titles on a traditional instrument such as a harp? You bet it is! And not only on the classical pedal harp but also on the more manageable lever harp, with its extraordinary variety of tonal possibilities. Harpist and harp teacher Anne Kox-Schindelin has arranged 14 popular film titles and 14 popular pop titles from the last few decades. Her arrangements are precisely tailored to the capabilities of the 34-string lever harp, but all the pieces are, of course, perfectly suited to a pedal harp, too. These collections bridge a real gap in the harp repertoire!

Debussy Preludes I and II

Claude Debussy was born on August 22, 1862 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. Known as the first musical impressionist, a label he has never accepted, his music continues today to enchant us with its colours and instrumental timbres.Influenced by Richard Wagner’s Gesamtkunstwerk and the Russian composers Aleksandr Borodin and Modest Mussorgsky, Debussy went on to write iconic orchestral pieces of the French classical repertoire: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune (1894), Nocturnes (1899), Pelléas et Mélisande (1902), La Mer (1905). Equally – or dare we say – even more famous however are Debussy’s piano pieces. Indeed, during his lifetime, Debussy wrote 24 Préludes and 12 Études. Ahead of Debussy’s 160th birthday, this bestselling collection of the Préludes by Éditions Durand, Debussy’s original publisher, is perfect to celebrate the composer. Printed on quality, ivory-colored stock with sewn binding, this collection is destined for life-long use and enjoyment of Debussy’s legacy.

Ola Gjeilo: Lux Beata Trinitas and Iam Sol Recedit

Ola Gjeilo’s evocative and poignant scores make him one of the most successful choral composers, as evidenced by the popularity of Ubi Caritas, The Rose, and Northern Lights. His latest pieces, Iam Sol Recedit and Lux Beata Trinitas for SATB choir, piano and oboe, were written as a pair and can be performed separately as individual works. Along with the musical flow between the two and the instrumentation, they are also linked through their texts, drawn from the office hymn used at first Vespers of the Sundays after Epiphany and after Pentecost.
